What trainings have you taken that involved movement?

I have been trained in all different forms of movement. I was a gymnast, I've earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, I was a swimmer, I was a Division One diver on the NC State Men's Swimming & Diving team, and now I'm a yogi! My most recent training in movement has been the 200 hour 180 hot yoga teacher training lead by the one and only, Emily Wallace.

If you could trade lives with one person for an entire day, who would it be and why?

I'd like to switch lives with my dog for a day. All he does is bark at things, run around, play with his toys, and he's constantly happy. It would be nice to have a day like that!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I'm pretty hard on myself so it's hard to say when my accomplishments are considered to be "reached". I would say that I'm proud of myself for completing the 180 Teacher Training. There were times where I didn't know if I could emotionally, physically, and mentally handle it anymore. Working full-time and then dedicating my week nights and weekends to yoga was something that I underestimated. However, I'm happy to say that I completed the program and I feel closer to myself and I feel as though my practice has improved immensely.

What is your favorite memory?

My favorite memory is the collective memory that I have of being on the NC State Swimming & Diving Team. When you spend as much time together as we did (morning practice, eating meals together, going to class together, afternoon practice, doing homework together, and even living together) you become so close with one another and they truly become your family.

What is your spirit animal?

A giant panda

What is your favorite restaurant in downtown Raleigh?

There are so many to choose from! But if I had to narrow it down to just one, I would have to choose Humblepie. Every time I've been, the food has been amazing and it's always been a really special time.

Tell us three words that describe you.

Understanding, empathetic, & energetic.

What is your favorite song?

"Work Song" by Hozier

Would you rather have a button that sped up a bad day or slowed down a good day?

I would slow down a good day.

What is one of your favorite local businesses in Raleigh?

My favorite local business has to be Centro Mexican Restaurant. Not only because I spend most of my days there, but because the general core values that Centro offers it's employees and it's guests are incomparable. Centro has delicious, authentic, and honest food that is served by some of the most passionate people in town!

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies are pretty simple. I like to cook, I like to stay active – but I also like to relax on the couch, I like to go out to eat, and I like to do any type of traveling that I can!

What brought you to yoga?

Friends got me into yoga. Originally, I liked the tough workout that I was getting but as I continued to practice, yoga became much more than just a workout. There are physical and mental challenges that I experience in my practice and it keeps me constantly interested in what I can do next.

If you could give your 13 year old self advice, what would it be?

I would tell my 13-year-old self to stop hiding – be yourself. Being authentic is so important and it's one of the best things that you can do for yourself and for the people around you. I would also tell myself to read more books. You can gain so much knowledge and understanding from reading.
